SwiphtPapers — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 April 2026 · Effective: 27 April 2026

In a sentence

SwiphtPapers does not collect, transmit, or store your data on any server we control. Your papers live on your devices and, optionally, in your private iCloud — encrypted end-to-end when iCloud Advanced Data Protection is enabled on your Apple Account.

Who publishes SwiphtPapers

SwiphtPapers is published by Pengfan Chang as an independent developer. Contact: [email protected].

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, this same address serves as the contact for matters under the GDPR / UK GDPR.

What the app handles, and where it goes

Paper content (titles, Markdown text, version history)

Stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you sign in to iCloud and enable iCloud sync for SwiphtPapers, copies are stored in your private iCloud database (CloudKit). Apple, not us, hosts that database. With Advanced Data Protection enabled on your Apple Account, the contents are end-to-end encrypted; without it, they remain encrypted in transit and at rest under Apple's standard data protection.

Audio recordings & transcripts

Created only when you press Record. Audio files are saved alongside the paper they belong to and follow the same path as paper content. Transcription is performed on your device by Apple's Speech framework; no audio is sent to any server we operate.

Location

Used only when you tap the location button to insert your current GPS coordinate into a paper. The coordinate is written into the paper as text. We do not store, transmit, or otherwise process your location.

Face ID / Touch ID (App Lock)

Authentication is handled by Apple's LocalAuthentication framework on your device. Biometric data never leaves your device and is not accessible to SwiphtPapers.

Subscription & purchase information

If you subscribe to SwiphtPapers Advanced, the transaction is processed by Apple under Apple's terms. We receive only the receipt the App Store provides — namely, that an active subscription exists for your Apple Account on this device. We do not see your name, address, payment method, or Apple Account email.

Diagnostics & analytics

SwiphtPapers contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracker. If you have opted in to Apple's "Share with App Developers" diagnostics in iOS / iPadOS / macOS Settings, Apple may forward aggregated, de-identified crash and performance data to us. You may turn this off at any time in your device settings.

Required-Reason API disclosures

Apple requires apps to declare the reason for using certain on-device APIs. SwiphtPapers declares the following in its PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy manifest:

  • UserDefaults (CA92.1) — to store the small set of user preferences exposed by SwiftUI's @AppStorage, and to cache subscription / app-integrity state.
  • Active Keyboards (54BD.1) — to populate the system emoji picker with keyboards the user has installed.

We do not sell or share your data

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not have third parties to share it with: SwiphtPapers ships with no advertising or analytics integrations.

Children

SwiphtPapers is rated 4+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from any user, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). The app does not contain advertising, in-app messaging, or any feature designed to elicit personal information from a user.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data on our own servers, most data-subject rights are exercised against the storage you control:

  • Access & portability — open the app to read your papers; export any paper as Markdown via the share sheet.
  • Correction — edit any paper at any time.
  • Erasure — delete a paper inside the app, then empty the recently-deleted bin if applicable. To erase the iCloud copy, sign into iCloud.com or your device, and remove the SwiphtPapers data category. Uninstalling the app removes its on-device data.
  • Withdrawal of consent — revoke microphone, location, or speech-recognition permissions in your device's Settings → Privacy & Security.

For questions or to exercise rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA / CPRA / LGPD or any analogous law in your jurisdiction, write to [email protected].

Where the app is available

SwiphtPapers is distributed on the Apple App Store in 174 countries and regions. It is not distributed in the App Store of mainland China. Availability is determined by the App Store storefront associated with your Apple Account.

Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy as the app or applicable law evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be summarised in the app's release notes.
